Tv Values

In today’s world of computers and an iPods you can take anywhere, and now with new technology you can basically do anything with them. This makes downloading and sharing videos exceptionally easy. While this is all very wonderful it comes with a catch, interpretations of incorrect situations. What I mean by this is, when looking at this from say the view of a fifth grader it makes me worry about the views they will soak up. While every parent tries to be the best they can be to their child these new technologies make monitoring the air ways increasingly difficult. The clip from the hit show Family Guy depicts Stewie and Brian in Iraq, don’t get me wrong I love family guy and have probably seen every episode. Family guy in particular prides its self on making a joke of everything, just in this clip we see; extorted women jokes, gay jokes, jokes about the way the army is run, and jokes about democracy. This to a child may not be so detrimental, however in today’s society when the average American spends about fours a day watching television. Think of all the things you can do in four hours: drive to ocean city, fly to Texas, or even run a ten min mile twenty four times. My point is that for the amount of TV spent a day, and the depreciating quality of what is on, we need to watch exactly what is filling our heads.

  1. I like the clip. It sis a perfect example of how democracy works, but only the disadvantages.

  2. It was really funny about how they had two dead guys guarding the amo. But in all seriousness, I do think that there is too much crap like that on tv these days. The worst part is that it is available to so many young children, who's parents may not find it appropriate.

  3. I myself am an avid Family Guy watcher. I find the program, (Well, most of the episodes) very funny. But I am also 19 years old. Over the year's I've acquired a personal filter, so to speak, and know what's appropriate to believe and repeat. My cousins who are 7 and 11 years old also watch the show...so frequently they quote it, and that's just bad news. This kind of show is not for children or immature people who can't handle it's content. It can be highly inappropriate and crude.

I must admit that I haven't take much enjoyment from the newest episodes. It's disappointing. For me, many of them just go way too far. There's a limit, and while the show has danced along the border for years, I feel its crossed over to a point where the controversial topics it pokes fun at isn't funny anymore. I hope the show fixes this.

  4. I'm getting flashbacks to my first reading of "Fahrenheit 451," and the massive video screens installed in people's houses in order to keep them occupied and ignorant. And one has to look no further than the average teenager to see just how effective it is.

  5. This is very true. When I first view the film I laugh at it, but after reading your post I see how it can be taken in a bad way. I tend to pass by the seriousness of it and laugh but some people may take this very offensive. The amount of bad TV we watch a day is ridiculous and I'm sure it does affect our society.

  6. I like the last statement you made, It gets straight to the point of your whole debate. Family guy is a great show none the less and watching it is a relation for me, letting my brain ease from the complexities of my life and let it become mush with its easy going humor.
